Gotham Season 3 Episode 6 Review: Follow the White Rabbit

at .

Gotham sure knows how to play with our emotions.

There were decisions to be made on Gotham Season 3 Episode 6 as Jim had to choose between two loves of his life while Penguin decided to come clean about his feelings for Nygma.

Friends - Gotham Season 3 Episode 6

It truly would have been a bold move on Gotham's part had they offed Lee. I was as surprised as she was that he chose Vale, though, I have my doubts about Jim loving the cute little reporter more.

He knew what Jervis was planning, that there was going to be a switcheroo of some sort, so he told Jervis to kill Lee in hopes that he would turn the gun on Vale. Still not an easy decision, but a better decision than killing the person who he thinks is the love of his life. (I still think Barbara is the winner there, though.)

Jim convinced himself that someone was going to die. Jervis already proved it twice before. I just can't figure out why Jervis didn't shoot Vale in the head. Unless, he did it on purpose...to make Jim have to live with more agony. To screw up his psyche even more by making him have to look at Vale every day and beat himself up for even getting involved with someone new.

Jim: I'm happy.
Vale: Of course you are. You get to drink scotch all day and have sex with me.

On the other hand, why not be certain she was dead? Why not shoot her twice? If he really would have killed her, wouldn't that have been even worse for Jim's psyche? He would have had to live with that, and Lee hating him forever for choosing the other woman. But, he always chooses someone or something else over Lee. Notice that, guys?

How can that be true love? Jim is fooling himself. And so is Lee.

Despite all that, this crazy woman still loves him. Her reaction to Jim choosing Vale over her was absolutely priceless, and I wish they would've shown Vale's initial reaction, because I'm betting she was just as shocked as Lee was.

Lee should know better though. He can't be that invested in Vale. he's only known her for a short time, and they've been together an even shorter time, which is why I think Jim was counting on Jervis to do a switcheroo.

Unless he really did want to kill Lee just to get her out of his life, but does anyone really believe that?

Jervis wanted to break Jim down even further than he already is, and he definitely succeeded. Even though Jim wasn't responsible for the deaths of the bride and groom or the two guys at the power plant, he still blames himself. That's just who Jim Gordon is.

I like how he threw Jervis' brand of mind games right back at the guy. At least Jim tried to deflect some of the crazy that was going on, but you know he's still going to hold onto the other deaths as his own.

You want revenge? Hurt yourself.

Gordon

It's hard to believe Jim could sink even lower than he already has, but his mind must be an endless abyss because it just keeps on filling up with crap and still hasn't overflowed. How long is he going to be able to stay sane? He has got to crack sometime.

Jervis has proved himself to be one of the best villains Gotham has had so far. He's much better than Professor Strange and a hundred times better than Galavan.

Still, Jervis is not without his flaws.

I don't get why he would take the bullets out of a gun in the basement. How could he have possibly known Jim would bring a backup? Why couldn't he have just taken the gun outright? Why leave it there?

I can't believe he would have left it there to give Jim some hope, because he had to have known Jim would be bringing his own gun. As smart as Jervis is, he had some really dumb moments this hour.

But back to Lee for a minute. Could it be possible that with everything that has gone on between her and Jim that she might go dark side? This whole incident could be the breaking point for her.

Dinner Party - Gotham Season 3 Episode 6

I know we already have Barbara off the deep end, but maybe it all could be part of a Jim Gordon curse? I like the idea of Lee gone mad. She would be a much more interesting character. Maybe she could even team up with Barbara, and they could try to destroy Jim together?

Wouldn't that be fun?

Maybe they could even recruit Mario. I get the feeling there's something going on with him. There has to be some underlying reason he decided to take a job in Gotham. Why torture yourself with your father's legacy, and with your fiancee's ex?

It doesn't make any sense.

Also in the "makes no sense" department is this BS with the Kristen Kringle look-a-like. SERIOUSLY, GOTHAM? Are you too afraid to take the plunge?

I get that Gotham doesn't want to just hand us what many of us are craving, but still. Couldn't they have just given us a one-night stand or something? A kiss, perhaps.

There's something I need to tell you. Something very important.

Penguin

Why does Penguin's heart have to be crushed before he even has a chance to get the words out of his mouth?

I wish Penguin would have just spit out his love for Nygma at the beginning of the day, but it's understandable he would be nervous.

Besides, saying it at a quiet dinner is much more romantic. Too bad it's not going to happen.

How is Penguin going to react when he hears about Nygma's adventures? He's going to be crushed for sure. He might feel foolish. Maybe even angry.

Will he hunt down and kill Kristen Kringle Two? Or, will he just kill Nygma?

What good is love if it's one sided?

Penguin

I  hope he doesn't opt to try to compete with the girl, because that would be so lame on Penguin's part. He's so much better than that. Please, Gotham, don't let him beg.

Make him furious instead. Make him bring down his wrath on Gotham and everyone around him. That's the kind of Penguin we want if we can't have Nygmobblepot. And, shame on Gotham for even teasing us in the first place. Why bring us to the brink only to shut us down?

It's sort of creepy that Nygma would actually fall for a girl who looks exactly like the girl he murdered (unintentionally, I know.) I'm not even sure I want to know how this storyline is going to play out. I just hope it's not all in Nygma's mind, because that would be the stupidest thing Gotham could ever do.

Barnes' poison blood is giving him some super strength. Did you see what he did to that chair? It sort of looked like he almost burned it besides squeezing it to death.

Is he ever going to tell anyone about it? How long is he going to keep up the charade? He can't possibly stay a good guy for long. I know I sound like a broken record, but I'm anxiously awaiting this transformation.

Something is going to push him over the edge, and he's going to go all Bane. Yes. I said it. I read somewhere (maybe it was even in the comments here) that if you take away the "r" and the "s" from his name...there you go.

I had thought the leather chick with the mask who was one of Fish's enforcers was proto-Bane, but I'm liking this theory even more.

Maybe Jim is going to be the one to push Barnes towards his true destiny. All I know is I can't wait for Barnes to cross over to the dark side. That burly bastard needs something else to do than push around Gotham's finest. So, hurry up with it already, Gotham. Please.

Other Thoughts:

  • Penguin telling the little boy to push other kids down the stairs was such a Penguin thing to say.
  • I wish Bullock had more to do. He's becoming quite boring.
  • Are we ever going to see Lucius again?
  • I hope we're not one and done with Victor Zsasz this season!
  • Barbara was on point when she said she was Jim's true, true love. I'm with her 100 percent on that one.
