Hilde’s trying to figure out what killed an entire flock of birds on the Woodruff mansion property. She decides to see Mr. Wargalese, aka Birdman. They take Wargalese to the mansion but the birds have been removed. All they find are feathers.

A tree branch breaks through the Lisko’s window during a storm, bringing a bird with it. Hilde, with some advice from Wargalese, insists on nursing it back to health.

The power is out. School is canceled but Izzy is upset because she can’t call Ethan. They try to talk every day before school.

Since the cabin has flooded, Hilde, Danny, and Spoon move their headquarters to a fishing shack.

Matt investigates Wott Management. The Wotts founded Erie Harbor, bought up a lot of land, and cut down much of the forest. Matt tracks down some of Wott’s financial records. He finds an address for Wott Management but the office building’s front doors are locked. Matt and Bridget get in through a side door. No one is in the office. Everything is eerily empty.

When parents continue to harass Principal Kim Collins and the school superintendent suggests that if enough parents complain she might be fired, Bridget offers to be Kim’s attorney. Kim accepts.

Bridget’s office is broken into but nothing appears to be stolen. She files a police report with Frank Briggs. Over the last year, Mayor Fife died and ex-Sheriff Briggs is working security. He considered running for mayor but has mostly kept a low profile.

Bridget is leery but Izzy is thrilled to be invited to Jessica Fife’s for a sleepover. When Jessica’s mother goes to bed, Jessica brings out hidden alcohol to share with her friends. The next morning, Izzy comes home with a hangover. Bridget makes her go to school anyone and tells her they’re going to have a long talk when she gets home.

When Mr. Wargalese analyzes the birds' feathers, he finds remnants of bullrushes that only grow in one area of Erie Harbor. When he, Hilde, and the kids get to that area, they find lots of dead fish in the water. Hilde spies a man watching them. When she tries to take a picture, he runs off.
