Ellie has Joel in the basement of a house. He's no longer bleeding out, but he's not in good shape, either.

He tells her to leave him and go back and find Tommy. He'll take her to the Fireflies.

She won't hear any of it. As she walks up the stairs to find something to help him, she reflects on the past.

She's in a quarantine zone and is ridiculed for her lack of ambition.

She attacks a girl and then her boss tells her that she could become an officer, or something else.

Ellie scoffs at it initially but finds herself thinking about it.

In the dead of night, Riley appears and gives Ellie a fright.

Riley has gone rogue and joined the Fireflies and Ellie isn't impressed.

Riley takes Ellie out for a night and they go to the mall, where they play lots of games.

Ellie then realizes her friend has bombs and guns and is shocked.

Ellie struggles with the implications of hanging out. Riley tells Ellie she's leaving the next day and Ellie is upset.

Ellie leaves but returns and the two of them have fun with masks. They kiss each other.

It all comes crashing down when an infected appears and attacks them. They both wind up bitten and think about how to end their lives.

Back in the present, Ellie finds herself with a needle and thread. She repairs Joel's wound.
