Recap

The adult Sheldon reflects on how he was flummoxed by everyone's expressions of grief after his father's death. Mary is seen praying, Meemaw drinking, and Georgie trying to negoitate a better price with the undertaker. Sheldon then relects that he thought about how upset he was when Spock died at the end of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. There is a clip that is interrupted by Missy demanding to know what Sheldon is doing and what is wrong with him that he is thinking about Star Trek when their father is dead.

Sheldon continually fantasizes about the last time he saw his dad while Pastor Jeff discusses the funeral plans with the family. Mary asks if he's okay. Missy says he's probably thinking about stupid Star Trek. Sheldon says that he was thinking about alternate realities. Missy snaps at him that he doesn't care about the funeral plans. Sheldon says the funeral plans won't change anything and are irrelevant. Georgie tells her to stop, as does Meemaw. Pastor JEff says it's healthy to get it all out and she snaps at him too. Mary sends her to her room.

Sheldon fantasizes that before George left he told him he loved him.

Later, Missy is outside on the porch swing. Billy comes up to her with food and says he's sorry about her dad. He asks if she wants a hug. She says nno. She's disgusted when he asks if she wants to kiss.

Missy is sitting on the couch when Dale comes in. She gets mad when he sits in George's chair. Dale sits down on the couch instead and she leaves. Sheldon comes along and announces that's his spot, but doesn't want to sit there.

Wayne comes to give Mary a box of George's things. He bursts into tears and realizes he's not helping. Mary hugs him.

Sheldon wanders around the house. Missy is sitting on her bed. Dale and Meemaw are hugging. So are Wayne and Mary. He decides he wants to avoid his grief and goes to school, where he rebuffs Sturgis' attempt to offer condolences.

In Mary's room, Mary is struggling to write a eulogy. Meemaw comes in to see her. She asks Meemaw how she got past her husband's death. Meemaw says she drank and smoked marijuana. Mary admits she and George smoked some the night before he left for Vietnam and got busy in the bedroom. Meemaw thinks Mary should tell that story at the funeral. Mary doesn't think that's appropriate in church. She tells Meemaw she knows it doesn't make sense but she's mad at George for dying. Meemaw says she was mad at her Daddy for dying too. Time helps. Mary's young. Mary says she's done.

Sheldon sits alone, again fantasizing about his last moments with his dad. This time he imagines asking to come with him and his father saying sure, let's play cards on the way.

At the funeral, Mandy's parents come in and Mandy's father says he loved George and begins crying. Sturgis and Linkletter also arrive. Sturgis is concerned about Sheldon. Mary says Sheldon isn't really talking to anyone. Sturgis and Linkletter say they'll look after him today.

Mary tells Missy she can go see George in the casket if she wants but she doesn't have to. Missy says she has to do this. She goes up to the casket and recalls George introducing her to chocolate cake when she weas a little girl. She thanks him for that.

Georgie goes up to the casket and tells George that he will take care of the family.

Mary tells George that he must really have wanted to get out of that family portrait.

Mary asks Sheldon if he wants to visit the casket but Sheldon shakes his head.

The service begins. Georgie gives a eulogy about how he always thought George was gonna kill him when he messed up but his dad had his back. Mary attempts to speak but bursts into tears and says she's so angry that George is gone. Meemaw starts her speech with jokes about George loving beer and brisket and Missy asks Georgie why everyone is laughing at Dad. Georgie says cause they love him. Sheldon sits stonefaced, observing, as Meemaw goes on and says that she wasn't always happy about George and Mary being together but he earned her respect and she was proud to call him her son.

Pastor Jeff asks if anyone else wants to speak. Mary encourages Sheldon to speak.

Sheldon gets up and says he's sorry he said nothing when George left and he hopes George knew he loved him. But this turns out to be a fantasy and Sheldon shakes his head and says nothing at all.

The adult Sheldon reflects that he knows know that his father was just a person doing the best he can and that he loved him and will miss him forever.

Young Sheldon Season 7 Episode 13 Quotes

Missy: What are you doing?
Sheldon: Thinking about Star Trek.
Missy: What is wrong with you? Our dad just died!

I was not always as emotionally intelligent as I am today. For example, when my father died, I was flummoxed by all the ways people expressed grief.
