Nathan: There’s nowhere else I’d rather be.

Thomas: And you’re going let your students suffer because you refuse to learn your place?
Elizabeth: My place is certainly not at the dinner table with you.
Mei: My mother was the most amazing cook. I would have loved to bring you home for dinner.
Mike: And then she could have told embarrassing stories of you as a kid
Elizabeth: I can’t prove anything. He makes sure of that. He has all the power.
Nathan: He doesn’t. That’s what he wants you to think, Elizabeth. Don’t let him. You know how strong you are. I’ve never known you to run from a challenge.
Thomas: How about dinner tonight?
Elizabeth: I don’t think that would be appropriate, Mr. Higgins. We can discuss any of this right here.
Thomas: Appropriate? I would have thought you’d put your students’ interests ahead of an old grudge.
Elizabeth: I have a feeling this is about settling old scores.
Rosemary: Because you stopped him from firing you?
Elizabeth: I tried to expose him for his inappropriate behavior, only it was my word against his.
This is what he does. He makes you doubt yourself that you’re not sure what actually happened.
Elizabeth
Thomas: Good morning, Mrs. Thornton. Thomas Higgins.
Elizabeth: I could hardly forget. What are you doing here?
I believe Elizabeth and every woman who has accused you.
Lucas
Lucas: You can’t put your socks on in this town without everyone hearing about it.
Nathan: Well, you were engaged to her, if I got that right.
Lucas: You got that wrong. We were together briefly, a very long time ago.
Elizabeth: Sometimes, it’s hard to know what’s going on inside someone else’s mind and heart.
Rosemary: Nathan? The trouble is minds and hearts don’t always agree.
Lucas: I just wanted to leave my past behind me.
Elizabeth: And it keeps finding you.
