Madam Secretary Season 6 Episode 1 takes place approximately 100 days into Elizabeth's presidency.

Elizabeth is trying to get the Senate to pass her ESI legislation, which funds education and infrastructure, but she soon has a bigger problem. It has been discovered that Iran interfered in the election, spreading a fake scandal about her opponent for the Presidency, and that makes it seem that she colluded with a foreign government to get elected.

Henry advises Elizabeth to ignore the scandal and just go on with her agenda, but the scandal soon dominates the news, and her former opponent now refuses to back her bill.

Meanwhile, Henry causes a minor embarrassment when he goes on the Stephen Colbert show and accidentally lets slip that he and Elizabeth haven't had sex since before she was elected. Plus, Elizabeth's assistant is of the opinion that Henry needs a new wardrobe.

And Elizabeth has another problem, too: Mike B has only agreed to serve as Chief of Staff for 100 days and is not interested in staying longer, but Elizabeth has not had time to consider replacements.
