Madam Secretary Season 6 Episode 3 revolves around the use of autonomous weapons.

When Elizabeth learns where the terrorist mastermind behind the UN gas attack is hiding, she has 24 hours to decide whether to use autonomous weapons to kill him or send in ground troops. Russell and Henry are against the use of autonomous weapons, but her military advisors are for them because they will protect the lives of soldiers.

Elizabeth eventually decides against using autonomous weapons. The mission is a success but 9 soldiers are killed and 8 more injured. Daisy gives a press conference and a reporter asks why Elizabeth didn't use unmanned weapons, making it clear there has been a leak.

Elizabeth feels guilty about the troops' death and apologizes to their families, who tell her in no uncertain terms that she should stand by their sacrifice instead of apologizing. She also meets directly with the Russian and Chinese ambassadors to try to get them to agree to a ban on the weapons and gives them 24 hours to avoid a costly arms race.

Meanwhile, Blake is asked to testify at the hearing and is questioned about possible campaign finance violations, but the real story is that he went to a family party with Stevie because he had a fight with his boyfriend and Stevie got into it with a misogynistic bundler.

And while all this is going on, Elizabeth and Henry search for the perfect dog now that they have no kids living at home.
