Recap

Boden has arrived back home and his family is happy to see him.

Violet and Carver wake up in bed together.

Stella introduces Mouch and Damon to the new truck. Mouch is not happy about the new rig.

Severide catches Boden up on what he missed while he was away.

51 responds to a call where victims are hanging from scaffolding on the side of a building, and the crew has to use the ladder for their rescue.

Carver struggles with difficult feelings after the call goes sideways.

Mouch obsesses with why the new truck feels different to the old one.

Severide has decided that he likes Damon, but Stella is clearly unsure about the new guy.

Boden announces that he is going to run for Deputy Commissioner against Robinson. He is met with congratulations from everyone. Hermann and Mouch discuss their worries about what the 51 will look like without Boden.

Another call brings 51 to a restaurant run by a family. The owner is agitated and verbally abusing the crew. One of his sons is severely burned and Stella insists that Violet take a look.

Carver reacts violently after the restaurant owner puts his hands on Stella.

Novak takes a hit during the scuffle.

Stella and Carver suspect that the younger son is being abused by either his brother or father.

After they leave, Stella chastises Damon and Carver for how they acted on the call, saying their actions could have compromised Boden's run for Deputy Commissioner.

Boden brings Hermann in to tell him that he wants him to take over his position as Chief if he gets the DC position.

Stella tells Severide she doesn't want to work with Damon after the way he acted on the restaurant call.

Violet thinks the way Carver reacted was about his feelings for Stella, but he tells her she's wrong and confesses that he has fallen in love with her. His actions were more about his past, but he doesn't mention that to Violet.

Severide goes to the bunks to talk to Damon about why he reacted so strongly on the call. Damon starts to tell Severide something about Stella but stops when she walks in.

Mouch tells Ritter and Hermann that he is planning to take the lieutenant's test. They all meet with a man who says he was the original driver of the squad's old truck. They ask him if he made modifications to the truck, and he says yes, but that all the changes they made were against current rules.

Stella tells Violet that Carver is taking another furlough and accidentally lets it slip that Carver has a past involving abuse.

Boden is sure that he didn't get the DC job and tells Melissa that he's disappointed that he was passed over. At that moment, his phone rings, and it's someone from headquarters who wants to see him in person right away.

When he arrives, Robinson is storming out of the office, and he is met with congratulations — he has been appointed the new Deputy Commissioner of the Chicago Fire Department.

Boden goes to the hospital to visit the victim from the first call and tells him he's been promoted. The victim, who is still on life support, moves his hand.

Severide tells Stella that he wants to start a family. Stella looks concerned but doesn't really respond.

Novak tells Damon that he should open up about whatever secret he is hiding.

Mouch continues to complain about the new truck. He and Hermann get emotional about Boden leaving.

Boden packs up his office. The crew crowds into his office to send him off.

The episode ends with Damon finding Severide to tell him why he really came to 51. Damon drops the bomb that Benny Severide was his father.
