Teachers Canceled As TV Land Exits Scripted Landscape

at .

TV Land looks set to exit scripted for good with the cancelation of Teachers.

The network will air 10 more episodes of Teachers which will form the second half of the comedy series' third season.

Per Deadline, there will be no fourth season, and the network is poised to leave the scripted TV landscape behind.

Teachers on the Playground

Premiering in 2016, Teachers focuses on five young teachers who attempt to mold young minds, despite them not having their own lives together.

It has garnered positive reviews since it debuted, but the ratings have never been up there with one-time TV Land series Younger.

In fact, the first half of Teachers Season 3 was down almost 30 percent in the demo vs. Teachers Season 2.

The cancellation comes just three months after it was revealed that TV Land's number one series, Younger, was leaving its perch at the network behind.

Pouty in Pink - Teachers

It was moved to Paramount Network, the relaunched version of Spike TV with the aim of bolstering the network's scripted content.

However, the move of Younger and the cancellation of Teachers certainly makes it seem like TV Land is returning to its roots.

With no new scripted shows in development and the final scripted original coming to a conclusion, the network is poised to return to broadcasting only classic sitcoms.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to get viewers to watch shows live, and it's hard to imagine the network parting ways with Younger if it was remaining in the scripted game.

Wrong Kind of Ho! - Teachers

Alas, the final ten episodes of Teachers will launch January 15, 2019.

Should TV Land return to classic sitcoms, or did you like the identity it carved out with Younger and Teachers?
