Nancy Drew Season 1 Episode 4 Review: The Haunted Ring

There is a spirit out to stir up trouble on Nancy Drew Season 1 Episode 4, and the time for denying it is offically over.

When your television plays a video of a murder victim before exploding in the dead of night, it's hard not to suspect that something supernatural is afoot.

But when a ghost jumps out of a vent and attacks your friend, all suspicions have been confirmed.

Widower - Nancy Drew Season 1 Episode 4

Let's talk about the elephant in the room: George is possessed.

Is that what the blood bucket could have been alluding to? George herself may not be dead, but a dead person has taken over her body.

Depending on the show, possession works in different ways. George could still be aware, but Tiffany could be in her mind ready to push her or take over at any minute.

Another possibility is that Tiffany could have taken over George's body completely, which means George is no longer there at all.

Everett Hudson - Nancy Drew Season 1 Episode 4

Could being possessed kill her? It's definitley not an option to rule out.

George may have been the other woman, but from the brief glimpses we've had and from what we've been told about her, Tiffany didn't seem like the type of person to hold a grudge.

I was the other woman. What I did to Tiffany was wrong. I mean, the least I can do is help her find some peace in the afterlife.

George

If anything, she appears to be righteous and forgiving. Even Ryan, who was cheating on her, seems to believe in the kind of person Tiffany was.

Like George's mom said, Tiffany attacking Bess was more than likely a cry for help.

Help me! It came out of the vent.

Bess

If I had to guess, I would say that Tiffany is a scared spirit, not a vengeful one.

Tiffany's sister Laura was a dynamic addition to the cast of characters. She may be a bit intense, but her determination to get to the bottom of her sister's death has to be admired.

It wasn't right of her to release the recording that Ace gave her in confidence, yet Ace should have seen it coming.

Ace - Nancy Drew Season 1 Episode 4

Laura is grieving, which makes her a loose cannon. She prioritized bringing her sister's killer to justice over her relationship with an old flame, and given the circumstances, we can't entirely blame her for it.

Ace and Laura may have made amends at the end of the episode, but I'm not feeling the sparks between them.

Maybe they need more time to grow on me, but at the moment I'm disinterested.

Viewers also have to wonder what Ace is doing working for the chief, in the first place. It's clear that the chief is holding something over his head, but we have no clue what it could be.

Ace and The Chief - Nancy Drew Season 1 Episode 4

From what we know about Ace, he seems like a genuine and stand-up guy. It's hard to believe that he could have done anything serious.

Is the chief blackmailing him?

Nancy finally opened up about her mom, and viewers could almost see the giant weight being lifted off her chest.

I wasn't with mom when she died. I didn't get to see what she was going through or what she was feeling. I was in a gym dancing with my friends. I had my phone. You could have called. But instead, you made me believe everything was okay. But I never got to say goodbye because of you.

Nancy

Her hostility towards her dad has felt undeserved at times, but this episode gave us more of an insight as to why she feels the way she does about him.

Visiting a Loved One - Nancy Drew Season 1 Episode 4

I can see both sides of the story.

Nancy should have been able to say goodbye to her mom if that's what she wanted, but Nancy's dad was only trying to protect his daughter.

When you lose someone, nothing can ever go back to the way that it was.

Is her dad a monster for respecting his wife's wishes and giving Nancy a couple more hours of blissful ignorance?

I was trying to honor your mom's wishes. I thought I was doing the right thing, but maybe I wasn't. Whatever you're feeling...you can carry it with you, but you can't let it consume you.

Carson

Soul Searching - Nancy Drew Season 1 Episode 4

Carson telling the press the truth about Tiffany's autopsy might be what finally mends his relationship with his daughter.

He chose what was right over what was easy, even if it costs him more than his job alone.

Hopefully, they'll be on the same page soon and we'll get to experience what their relationship was like before everything took a turn for the worst.

Stray Thoughts

  • Did Bess' English accent throw anyone else for a loop? How did she keep it up so well when she was attacked by a ghost? That's some real dedication.
  • George and her mom don't get along well, but she may be the key to saving George. And we have to admit that she seems like a pretty funny character.
  • What was on the flash drive Laura took from Nic's place? Is it something Tiffany left behind?
  • Bess' identity may not have been a lie, after all. But telling everyone her last name was Marvin wasn't her best idea.

  • How did Ryan feel about his wife? He must have cared about her given the conversation George overheard, but what does it all mean?

Alright, Nancy Drew fans! What did you think of the episode?

Help me! It came out of the vent.

Bess

Bess: That was definitely not a fuse, Nancy.
Nancy: It was something.
Bess: Well, I think it was a message from Lucy like the time she told you not to go into the morgue.
