Nat: Ex vivo surgeries are experimental. There's no guarantee they will work. But you didn't call me up here to debate this, did you?
Marcel: Natalie, if we don't do this surgery, Isabella dies.
Nat: I'll scrub in.
Sharon: This virus is still killing people, and there are thousands like Isabella who have had their treatment interrupted. I wish I could save every patient, but the reality is there are some we just can't save.
Marcel: The world really sucks right now.
Mayfield: That helps your hospital. Now let's talk about mine. How's 30% sound?
Will: 30% of what?
Mayfield: Your patient enrollment fee.
Will: A kickback?
Mayfield: You could call it that. I call it a quid pro quo.
Will: Call it what you want. It's unethical and I won't do it.
Oncologist: She's very sick. If we'd been able to treat her earlier -
Nat: We weren't.
Oncologist: I understand. And in that time her cancer has progressed to the point that we can't treat it.
[After Oncologist walks off]
Nat: So that's it?
Marcel: She has her opinion. I have mine.
Cancer? I don't understand. I'm only 21. I should have come in as soon as I started having issues. But with COVID... both my parents are high risk and I didn't want to expose them.
Patient
Will: I'm meeting with a cardiologist later this morning and hoping he'll throw me a few patients but in the meantime I'm throwing a pitch at what few patients we've got.
April: I'd like to help.
Will: Really?
April: When I was in the COVID ward, I felt like I was part of something bigger than myself. I want to feel that again.
Nat: I'm not feeling anything but your abs are really tight. Try to sit back and relax.
Patient: Yeah, right. 2020 did away with that.
Choi: No compressions. It puts the virus into the air and puts you all at risk.
Driscoll: But he needs me to.
Choi: Charge.
Driscoll: Give me the paddles.
[After it fails]
Driscoll: Please let me do chest compressions. It'll keep his heart alive.
Choi: No.
[The patient dies]
Choi: We did everything we could.
Maggie: I'm not gonna say anything, but I saw that.
