The local bar, Mahoney’s, has a trivia night. Eve is the host and mediator. The teams are the Theology Department, The French Department, the Psychology Department team consisting of Frasier, Alan, and Olivia, and the Fire Department with Freddy and his colleagues.

Frasier is shocked when Freddy and his team win, mostly thanks to Freddy. He tells Olivia how it doesn’t surprise him as Freddy is very well educated for being just a firefighter. Freddy overhears and takes offense as Frasier tries to backtrack his statement.

Freddy is upset that Frasier is always so dismissive of his job. Eve suggests inviting Frasier down to the station so he can see Freddy in action. She admits she didn’t appreciate what Adam did until she saw it for herself.

Alan fights Eve on the answer to one of the questions. He’s upset because if they had won, he wouldn’t have to pay for his drinks that night and he ordered some expensive drinks. He tells Eve she’s making the biggest mistake of her life by dismissing him. Eve counters that the biggest mistake of her life was not telling the love of her life that she loved him the morning he left for work and didn’t come back. Alan nods and says that denying him is the second biggest mistake.

Alan and Olivia come back and try to persuade Eve again. She promises them half-price drink coupons if they leave her alone. They take it.

Freddy invites Frasier to the station. It happens to be the day the photographer is taking photos for the yearly calendar, and Freddy is Mr. July.

David brings the groceries so Frasier can make the firefighters dinner. They mistake him for one of the orphans that the calendar funds help, give him a tour, and buy him a bike.

Frasier goes on an emergency call with Freddy, but it ends up being a man who is stuck in his pet door. The man has such anxiety that Frasier steps in and talks him through it. Freddy is frustrated. Then he’s called out to a four-alarm fire, leaving Frasier behind to feed his special dinner to the firehouse dog.

At Mahoney’s, Frasier and Eve watch the coverage of the fire, hearing that at least one person was transported to the hospital. Eve shares with Frasier that she loved that Adam loved being a firefighter but hated how she worried about him all the time.

Frasier shares how much this is like when he and Niles worried about their father, Martin, who was a police officer. Now Freddy has picked the one job that’s even more dangerous.

Frasier doesn’t want to burden Freddy with his fears, but Eve encourages him to talk to Freddy. Maybe if they talk more about Freddy’s job, it will feel less scary.

At home, Freddy comes back from the fire to find Frasier has made Freddy’s recipe for chili. Frasier asks his son to tell him about his night. Freddy starts but notices Frasier has tears in his eyes. It’s not Freddy’s story, but the chili, which is surprisingly spicy. Freddy gets Frasier some milk, and Frasier has him continue his story.
