The Good Doctor Season 5 Episode 1 revolves around the idea of imperfection.

Lea is determined to create the perfect engagement party. In her mind, if the wedding and engagement party are imperfect, then the marriage will end in divorce like her last one did. She is doing all the planning herself and running herself ragged as well as having nightmares.

Meanwhile, Shaun and Park treat a mother and son who both have cancer. The mother doesn't want treatment until her son is healthy even though her cancer is more serious because she will be laid up for a month and has no access to child care. Shaun tries to come up with an innovative solution that will allow her son to recover quickly from surgery so that they can treat the mother sooner, but is interrupted by the need to go to the engagement party.

Meanwhile, Morgan and Jordan deal with an annoying patient with ADHD who keeps forgetting what she is supposed to do when she is supposed to get a biopsy on her kidney, forcing them to reschedule and delaying their ability to diagnose her properly.

And Lim is surprised to learn Mateo is moving to California rather than just coming for a visit.
