This Is Us Season 5 Episode 11 revolves around Nicky.

After showing up at Kevin and Madison's to see the babies (he didn't realize the christening would be a Zoom affair and doesn't know what Zoom is), Nicky recalls another couple of journeys in his life that didn't go so well. In flashback, we learn about his romance with Sally, a woman he worked with at a veterinary clinic. He and Sally begin dating and Sally even meets Nicky's parents. She takes a photo of him and Jack so that they can remember how they felt this day when they are old.

Later, though, Sally wants to go to Woodstock with Nicky and then off to California. Nicky plans to sneak out of the house to meet her. He doesn't want to tell his parents in case he gets cold feet. Jack thinks he should go but Nicky isn't sure.

After returning from Vietnam, Nicky gets a call from Lt. Sheenan inviting him to a get-together. Jack will be there. Sheenan knows Nicky doesn't like these sort of events, but wants him to come since it's in his neck of the woods. Nicky drives to the event but doesn't go in, instead spying on Jack and then driving away.

In the present, Nicky has a hard time at the airport and breaks his snow globes that he made and wrapped for the babies when the TSA agent won't allow them on board. Kevin is excited to see him and plans all sorts of things. Nicky calls Cassidy in the middle of the night and considers running away before Kevin gets up. Cassidy tells him that he's scared of all the love he's receiving because he's hated himself for so long.
