This Is Us Season 5 Episode 10 revolves around sometimes intrusive family members.

Randall is spending a lot of time in his hideout on his porch to try to avoid Carol, who was babysitting while they were in New Orleans and now doesn't seem to be leaving. Carol supposedly is going home tomorrow, but informs Beth that she changed her train ticket and is staying another week.

Meanwhile, Malik shows up and wants to talk to Randall privately, while Tess is frustrated that Beth can't remember that her friend Alex is non-binary and goes by they.

Malik tells Randall a big secret: his daughter's mom wants to get back in the picture. At dinner, Tess and Beth fight about Alex and Deja is upset when she learns Malik told Randall and not her about Jennifer. Tess reveals she is dating Alex and Carol knew but Beth didn't.

Meanwhile, Toby doesn't want Kevin to know he lost his job. At their family dinner, Kevin is all excited about the possibility of the two families merging. Toby lets slip about the job loss and is offended at Kevin's offer to help financially.

And in the past timeline, Jack tries to get a promotion and ends up paying for an expensive dinner he and Rebecca can't really afford.
