This Is Us Season 5 Episode 9 is all about new beginnings.

Jack and Kevin live parallel lives in which they both struggle to get the car seats into the car for the ride home and get aggravated with people. For Jack, first a security guard asks him why he has three car seats and later almost gets into it with some idiot who cuts him off on the way into the gas station. For Kevin, a fan tries to take a photo while Kevin is putting the car seats in and later almost gets into into it with a photographer who is following him.

Meanwhile, Kate and Toby take Ellie and Hailey home, but Kate is crushed when Ellie decides she doesn't want to be part of Hailey's life after all. Later, Kate can't understand why Toby isn't upset. He tells her that plans change, but Kate is worried that Hailey will be affected by not knowing her birth mother like Randall was by not knowing his birth parents.

In another timeline, Randall and Beth take baby Annie home and Beth is irritated that Randall keeps talking about having a third child. Randall tells the baby that when he was a kid, doing a family tree was awkward because his family weren't the people he came from.
